Accountability Is Not Retribution
Shielding an elite sex trafficking operation makes you an accessory. IMPEACH.
Jeffries and Schumer say the nation doesn't want "retribution". But Constitutional oversight is not petty personal revenge, it is a check on the executive vested in the House and tried in the Senate. They are failing us if they don't impeach. Here's why:
The benefit of impeachment is bigger than whether Trump gets convicted. High crimes and misdemeanors aren't defined in the Constitution; its definition is constructed by precedent based on where Congress draws a line in the sand historically.
Having Congress say "this was the line for us" even if he doesn't get convicted gives future Congresses (and Presidents for that matter) a benchmark to know where that line is, and that's important.
More than that, the greatest subpoena power and ability to pierce the veil of executive privilege is attached to impeachment since those are precisely the moments where the deepest investigative power is needed.
This has been historically upheld by SCOTUS. What that means is that the impeachment legal container allows exposing everything from corrupt executive orders to shielding the Epstein class in ways that other forms of investigation don't.
It is profoundly important to the historical record. We must have leadership willing to impeach. That isn't retribution. It's a boundary-setting and norm-defining public duty
Among its many crimes, this administration shielded an elite sex trafficking operation, which makes them an accessory. If anything is a line in the sand, it's that!!
Call the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 to be connected to your House and Senate representation. Do this as often as you have capacity in the coming weeks before the caucus meets to solidify leadership.
Tell them that leadership must be willing to use its power!! If Jeffries and Schumer refuse to do so, they cannot be leaders in this historical moment.
